Electric Motors

At SAMS we try to offer a wide variety of different choices for powering your model. Derek Knight, a very well known modeller in the UK has produced a series of electric motors set ups just right for the size of model we cater for.

Developed and refined over the the last 10 years this range is now very reliable and easy to use.

 

KP00 Mk 2. The latest development of this unit now comes with a geared motor and a 3 ½ folding prop. Very light, the motor/prop weigh just 7 gms. Can be used with one, two or 3 50 mah cell depending on how long you want the motor to run for. Suitable for models from 13 to 20 inch span depending on number of wings, drag etc. The unit comes with prop only. Batteries and charging circuit need to be added. Charging time depends on how many cells are used but is between 1 to 3 minutes.

The KP01 unit was the first of the series and has now sold in the thousands to happy modellers all over the world. This unit comes complete with its flight cells, 3 x 50 mah, built into the back of the housing. The batteries can be detached and moved back closer to the C of G if needed. The charging circuit and socket are already fitted. Suitable for models up to about 4 1/2 ozs, 125 gms. 20 to 28" span models are ideal. The props, of which 2 are supplied, can be cut down to reduce thrust. A tiny speed controller is also available to reduce the RPM. Charging time is 3 minutes.

The KP02 is the 01 big brother. Designed for models up to about 42" span or 9 1/2 ozs, it also comes complete with flight cells, 3 x 110 mah, and 2 propellers. This is a powerful motor which can easily be used for some of the latest "Park Fly" small r/c models in conjuntion with a speed controller. To reduce the torque produced by this motor the 5 1/2" prop from the KP01 can be used to good effect. Charging time is 3 minutes at 2 amps or 6 minutes at 1 amp.

The KP Electric Ducted Fan. This is an exciting new unit from K&P. Designed for models up to about 20" span the power is supplied by 4 x 120mah cells, not supplied with the fan, producing a basic thrust of about 60 gms at start dropping to 20 gms after 50 seconds. However, using various paper ducting setups shown in the instructions, the thrust can be increased to an extrodinary 83 gms at start dropping to 26 gms after 50 seconds. The fan has a length of 1 3/4" (450mm) including the domed impeller and the same width accross.

K&P Nicad Field Charger. This unit can be used with the KP00,01 & 02 but in not suitable for the Fan unit. We have yet to find anyone who has used the capacity of this field charger up in one days flying. Supplied in a rugged plastic case, it is quite safe to carry in the pocket.

K&P Mains Charger. This is designed to recharge the field charger overnight. We also offer a converter to adapt this unit for European mains sockets. Not suitable for use in the USA without suitable step up converters.

K&P Nicad Flight Cells. These are available in a variety of different sizes and ratings. The pack of 3 50mah cells as fitted to the KP01. The pack of 3 110 mah cells fitted to the KP02. The pack of 3 120mah cells which can be used with either and the pack of 4 120mah cells for use with the Fan unit. Note. The field charger will not charge the 4 cell pack.
